01 · The pitch

Pet Gatekeeper, in one minute

Pet Gatekeeper overlays a short video of your own pet on top of the sites you keep losing time to. The Mac & Windows app is live now; the browser extension is in store review. Make your pet today, paste the code, and the next time X, TikTok or Reddit swallows an hour, your cat or dog stands in the way. Built for the kind of session you opened 'for five minutes' forty minutes ago.

04 · The full story

What is a Pet Gatekeeper?

A Pet Gatekeeper is a short, looping video of your own pet that hijacks your screen the moment you've spent too long on a watched site. The Pet Gatekeeper Chrome extension handles the timing — you set the limit, it shows the pet, you stop scrolling, you walk away.

Most screen-time tools just nag — a banner, a number, a guilt trip you dismiss in two seconds. A Pet Gatekeeper is the opposite: no warning, no negotiation. Your real cat or dog takes over the page until your time-out is up. It's easier to obey when the thing standing in your way is the pet you love.

The two starter Pet Gatekeepers are a Cat Gatekeeper and a Dog Gatekeeper. You can use ours, or you can make a Pet Gatekeeper from your own pet's photos in just a few steps.

05 · Why it works

Why your own pet is the screen-time limit you'll actually obey

Willpower can't beat the algorithm. Your pet can.

A generic block screen, you dismiss in two seconds. Your own cat or dog filling the page is something your brain refuses to swat away.

Yours, not generic

It's your cat, your dog. The pull to stop isn't discipline — it's love. That's the only force that out-pulls an infinite feed.

It blocks; it doesn't lecture

No streaks, no shame, no productivity score. Just your pet, in your way, until you've actually been off the site long enough.

06 · How it works

How it works

  1. 01

    Get the app

The Mac & Windows desktop app is live now. Browser extension (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) is in store review. Same pet, same code, works in any of them.

  2. 02

    Upload your pet's photo

Drop in 1–4 photos of your pet on petgatekeeper.com. We turn them into two short videos: an intro and a loop.

  3. 03

    Redeem your code

Paste the 8-character code into the app. Your pet downloads once and lives on your device — paste again on any other browser or computer.

  4. 04

    Set your scroll limit

Pick how long you can browse a watched site, and how long the gatekeeper holds you out. Your pet does the rest.

07 · Built for real focus

Built for the scroll sessions you can't stop

The 'just five more minutes' on X

You opened it for one notification forty minutes ago. Pet Gatekeeper hijacks the tab the moment your limit hits — no dismiss button, just your cat.

deep focus

TikTok, Reels, Shorts

Infinite scroll is engineered to beat you. Your dog filling the screen isn't. Per-domain rules so the gatekeeper only fires where you actually lose time.

After-work doomscroll

The 11pm Reddit hole nobody plans on. Set a tighter limit for evenings; your pet appears, your phone gets put down.
