02 · Why it matters
The details worth understanding
Emotional connection is the whole point
When a random preset cat appears on your screen, it's easy to dismiss it — you have no attachment to that animal. When your own dog or cat shows up, the calculus changes. You feel guilty ignoring them. That guilt is the feature. Pet Gatekeeper is built on the premise that personalization isn't cosmetic; it's the mechanism that makes the intervention actually work.
Your pet's video — not a preset one
Cat Gatekeeper and Corgi Guard do show video, but it's a fixed clip that every user sees. Pet Gatekeeper generates two custom video clips from your own photos — an intro and a seamless loop — both rendered as transparent .webm files. Your pet appears to float over the page, moving naturally, without any background box. The intervention works because it's your animal, not a stranger's.
One pet, two platforms
Each pet you create gets a unique 8-character redemption code. Use it in the Chrome extension on your laptop, in the desktop app on a different machine, or share it with a friend who wants to use your pet. Cat Gatekeeper and Corgi Guard have no shareable codes — every install shows the same preset animal, with nothing personal to move between devices or hand off to anyone else.
